A little about Piemonte
At the foot of the mountains.
Piedmont (Piemonte, meaning “at the foot of the mountains”) lies in northwestern Italy, framed by the Alps and bordering France and Switzerland. Once the heartland of the House of Savoy, it played a central role in the unification of Italy, with Turin becoming the country’s first capital. The vineyard landscapes of Langhe-Roero and Monferrato are now recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with rolling vineyards, medieval villages, grand castles and historic estates scattered across the hills.
Today, Piedmont is celebrated for its exceptional food, wine and traditions. From Barolo and Barbaresco to Alba’s famous white truffles and hazelnuts, the region has a deep-rooted love of good food and good living. And while it may feel a little different from the Italy of postcards and Mediterranean beaches, Piedmont has quietly shaped Italian culture in remarkable ways — from vermouth and the aperitivo tradition to the birth of the Slow Food movement.
